Wheelchair platform lifts are installed both indoors and outdoors.
Wheelchair stairway platform lifts are more common these days.
They are easily erectable and do not require much alteration
in the building.
They are noiseless and smooth. They do not cause
hindrance to the stair users. Normally rails are attached
to walls of the stairway or the stairs themselves and a platform
is attached to the rails. These platforms are larger than
the wheelchairs.
When the wheelchair user mounts the wheelchair
in the platform and presses the button the platform raises
along the rails and takes the person to the other end. Normal
safety features are built in these lifts. The platform can
be folded when the lift is not in use to facilitate easy use
of the stair way for others.
Wheelchair van lifts
Van lifts are used for transfers into automobiles. These can
be dismantled and folded easily after use.
